Sven B. Schreiber (sbs) "By A Little Light" is of the same class and perfection as "In The Ivory", released two years later. Matt Ulery's unique writing style is the constant in the varied pieces on this exceptional double album, and many of the first-class musicians performing on "In The Ivory" can be found here as well. I'm especially pleased to hear the magnificent voice of Grażyna Auguścik and the piano virtuosity of Rob Clearfield once again. My favorite track "Gone Like It Always Was" is not among those playable for free, so I recommend "To Lose Your Mind" as a representative sample. Favorite track: Gone Like It Always Was.

Lyrics:

Somebody Somewhere

I know that you haven’t had a chance to see
through the dust and what a simple life could be
I can tell your situation’s not in line to see it right
you could be somebody somewhere following the rule that you write
no you can’t get enough
though the times are tough
when you look to far
you’ll be fading faster than a falling star
if I could find the time
I would write a tome and send the dove away
as quickly as the passing day
atone you’ll be alone you’re breaking up
give back the days of old
believe me when I tell you so
so take a look and let it lie a little longer
later than the owl’s call on the hour
leave a little light and let a feel find you
fall in for a feast a bough that can hold you

Broken and Blinded

if I lost my way would you worry
would you call the clan in a hurry
and if I was broken and blinded
would it be the last of the wild
do you know that way to go and when once the road is wide
if life’s a memory, your memories alive
now that i’m no longer a foal
flight and fear is all that I know
spend a day to stop on a dime
kicking sand is more than a past time
all my instincts tell me that i’m bound by the grip of one
and now I know of what it is to be alone

Sow the Deep Seeds

what might keep man alive
theres no hope in suicide
black blank bound to fill out the days
and white nights won’t wash it all away
man’s a troubled horse
broken like a mule
wasted to the core
nature’s call is true
everyone sleeps alone
all to find the lightness of his own
run on green leaves
sow the deeps seeds
take the heart strings of the one you need
now
any you know you’ll get what you deserve
at the table lies the final word
turn the corner and you’ll find your way back

To the Brim

my heart’s filled to the brim
with the light that your shining in
weeks and miles at a time
all along to the end of the line
push and pull of the land
cultivate with a giving hand
skirting close to the edge
with a chance it’s a line to the end
i can see for days
for miles a thousand ways
a wash of amber waves of grain
miracle of sun and rain
making time and time to give enough
to look at all the skin and dust
all that comes off all of us
my heart’s filled to the brim
with the love that your pouring in
sewn a seed at a time
with a plan and a season to find
fall weighs in at a ton
by the light of a bleeding sun
days are washing away
all alone by the end of the day

Gone as it Always Was

road; long as the sky is blue
not like the things we knew.
and when the day is done
I will be waiting for you
now; gone as it always was
time stood still for us.
just wait for the moon to rise
and take to sorrow from your eyes
down; without a hope to keep
follow the road to be
as happy as when it was
and leave the crying to the sea
as long
as long as the day
as long as the night's song
it will come around
by the lightness or the color of a dream
it's something
when sleep comes with another story
wonder where is better to be
why I try, I don’t know why
but I’ll bide my time
as long
as long as the day
as long as the night's song
it will come around
by the lightness or the color of a dream
